The Edison Arts Society is proud to honor watercolorist Mary Ellen Brennan of Monroe Township as its Fall 2006 Artist of the Season. Mary Ellen has positively assisted the growth of the Society’s visual arts discipline by donating numerous hours at the “Gardens of the Garden State” Art and Photography exhibit at Menlo Park Mall, and at EAS’s successful first annual “Art in the Garden Tour” this past August.

Mary Ellen J. Brennan is not a new comer in the pursuit of expression through art. She is a Monroe Township artist who originally began her career in oils transitioning along the way to watercolor, pen and ink and occasionally returning to her first love.

Studying at the Hudson River Museum in Yonkers, NY with Harold Wolcott, a member of the renowned Salmagundi Club, her love of art flourished. This gave Mary Ellen the opportunity to do commission pieces, among which were the “Rescue” and “Rescue II” painted for the Murphy Pacific Salvage Co.

When circumstances placed her in St. Louis, Missouri in the mid 70’s Mary Ellen tried her hand at watercolor as her medium of choice and joined the West County Artist Guild. Since then Mary Ellen has studied with New Jersey watercolorists Richard Kaiser, Judi Gilden, and presently with Ray Skibinski. Her works have been exhibited in numerous shows including the Garden State Watercolor Society’s Eden House annual show and sale; juried shows at Consolata Mission’s “Art in Movement” where her painting “Silence” took first place; the Bristol Myers Squibb show where her work “The Event” received honorable mention; 1860 House in Montgomery, NJ, a small works show at the Watchung Arts Center, and various juried shows conducted by the Edison Arts Society. This fall Mary Ellen participated in “Tribute to Eight”, a free art show at St. Peter’s University Hospital honoring breast cancer survivors.

Mary Ellen is currently a member of EAS, the Garden State Watercolor Society, and the Montgomery 1860 House. She has had one man shows at the Monroe Library, Piscataway Municipal Building, and in lobbies of banks throughout the state. Today her works can be found in homes and offices from Maine to Florida to Texas and as far abroad as Australia.

We thank you Mary Ellen for your dedication and loyalty towards the visual arts and to our eight-year old non-profit organization -  the Edison Arts Society!

Mary Ellen’s works can be found throughout the United States and as far abroad as Australia. She keeps busy by doing commission work when the opportunity presents itself as well as painting for her own fun and amazement and the love of it all!!!
