Message From The President
The Edison Arts Society is a community based arts advocacy and performance/exhibit oriented not-for-profit organization.
Since its inception in February, 1998, citizens from all walks of life have come together to contribute to the establishment of eight working committees focusing on eight different disciplines of the arts: Theater, Dance, Music, Visual Arts, Literature, Graphic Arts, Film & Video, and Architecture/Interior/Landscape Design.
The goals of the Edison Arts Society were refined and articulated at Edison's first Arts Summit held on June 20, 1998 at the JFK Conference Center in Edison attended by over 250 artists and along with many others who supported the goals of the Arts Society. The guest speaker was Edison High School graduate, actor Robert Pastorelli, perhaps best known as the painter/nanny "Eldin Bernecky" on televisions Murphy Brown, who entertained participants while encouraging and supporting the work of the Edison Arts Society. Mr. Pastorelli joined EAS as an Honorary Member of our Board of Trustees along with Oscar-winning actress Susan Sarandon, another native of Edison.
With strong support from Edison mayor George A. Spadoro and the City Council, the EAS Board of Trustees and Executive Director have made tremendous strides. Our monthly committee meetings have produced community outreach activities, a quarterly newsletter, a website, a cable TV show, the Edison Literary Review magazine, and the 70 piece professional Edison Symphony Orchestra, designated the "official Symphony Orchestra of Middlesex County" by the Middlesex County Chosen Board of Freeholders in 2003.
"One of our ultimate goals is the establishment of a permanent Visual Performing Arts Center here in Edison. Your involvement will promote opportunities for our artists to present their work; help to support the business community so they, in turn, can support us; and enrich the quality of all of our lives."
Yours in the Arts,
Angelo A. Orlando, Jr.
