Phantasmagoric

A Juried Exhibit at the
Gallery of the
Edison Arts Society
June 2005
to October 2005

Such a delicious word! It is a word of conjuring and magic, a word that brings to mind dreams and fantasies, images that aren't there but might be, or could be.

Phantasmagoric.
Allow the word to drop an amorphous veil down the back of your mind, one that muffles the reality of the everyday, or that opens your eyes to the wonder of the everyday! Many thanks to the artists who sent us their
phantasmagoric work.

Juror

The juror for Phantasmagoric was Phil Orenstein, Professor of Visual Art at the Mason Gross School of Art at Rutgers University. Philip is a painter, sculptor, and designer of inflatable sculpture who now concentrates on painting; He also has been involved in producing art pieces using computer-controlled laser videodisks. In 1974, he founded the Arts Computer Laboratory at Rutgers, the first such facility in an art school in the USA.

Phantasmagoric Opening/Reception Sunday June 5, 2005 3-5pm
Featuring live music, refreshments and an open bar.

The Gallery of the Edison Arts Society is a joint venture between the six-year old Edison Arts Society and its corporate partner, the Sheraton Edison Hotel at Raritan Center. Exhibits hang in this venue for six-months and are viewed by multitudes of out-of-town visitors as well as locals who frequent the Hotel for meetings, galas, lunches or dinners. With its first opening on November 24, 2001, the Gallery found its home on 50 feet of wall space in the well-traveled, beautifully maintained lobby of the Hotel, near the café. The Hotel sponsors Gallery openings with a lavish reception buffet, along with live entertainment provided by EAS. Our first opening and reception was attended by more than 200 artists and art supporters.
