Artist of the Season
Dorothy Obropta
Edison Arts Society is pleased to honor Dorothy
Obropta as the Winter 2007 Artist of the Season. A 35-year
resident of Metuchen, New Jersey, Dorothy Obropta is considered a model
community service leader and advocate of
nature and the arts.
This published author obtained a Masters of Teaching degree in
Secondary School Science from Villanova University
in 1969. Although retired from the Metuchen Public School system, she continues
to contribute her knowledge to young
educators as a consultant for Rutgers Graduate School of Education. Her
busy retirement schedule also includes volunteer
work at JFK Medical Center. Additionally, she is active in the Metuchen
Senior Commission and Friends of the Library.
Her dedication to music and the arts started early on as a member
of the Greensboro Symphony during her college
years. This dedication is further evidenced having achieved both Gold and
Silver Benefactor status in the Edison Arts
Society. Additionally, Ms. Obropta attends all of the Edison Symphony
Orchestra concerts, and volunteered her time to help
with EAS’s first successful “Art in the Garden” Tour this past August.
Ms. Obropta is well known for her promotion of outdoor activities
and is participating member of several outdoor organizations
such as New Jersey Outdoor Women’s League in which she serves as a trustee,
American Littoral Society and International
Game Fish Association.
In Metuchen, Dorothy is best recognized for the color and beauty
she brings to the area as an avid gardener.
Congratulations Dorothy on all that you do for our community! We are
proud to have you as a vital part of our
rapidly growing organization!
